The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal program that helps make dental care more affordable for eligible Canadians without private dental insurance. We're proud to be a CDCP provider.
Quick summary
To be eligible, you must meet all four of the following criteria. If you're unsure whether you qualify, we're happy to help you figure it out.
You must not have access to private dental coverage — through your employer, your pension plan, a family member's plan, or a plan you purchased yourself. This applies even if you haven't opted in or don't use it.
Must not have private coverageYour adjusted family net income must be under $90,000 per year. Those under $70,000 pay no co-payment at all. Income is verified through your tax return.
Based on adjusted family net incomeYou must have filed your most recent tax return. If you haven't filed, you won't be eligible — even if your income is low enough to qualify.
Tax return requiredYou must be a Canadian resident. The plan is open to all ages — children under 18, working-age adults 18–64, and seniors 65 and over.
All ages eligibleThe CDCP covers a wide range of dental services. Some require pre-authorization from the CDCP before treatment can begin — we'll handle that process on your behalf.
Orthodontic coverage (including Invisalign) is not yet available under the CDCP — a date for this has not been confirmed. For the full list of covered services and frequency limits, visit the official CDCP coverage guide.
Applications are managed directly by the federal government. Here's how to get set up — then book with us once you're enrolled.
Confirm you meet all four requirements: no private dental insurance, household income under $90,000, taxes filed for the previous year, and Canadian residency.
Apply online through My Service Canada Account, by phone at 1-833-537-4342, or in person at a Service Canada office. The CDCP will never ask you to pay to apply — watch out for scams.
Once you're enrolled, call or book online and let us know you're a CDCP patient. We'll confirm your coverage and take care of the billing directly through Sun Life.
